I love making variations of typical sauces. It adds depth to whatever dish it’s added to. I needed a Blueberry BBQ Sauce for these turkey burgers I was drooling about, so set to the kitchen and concocted what I think is a delicious blueberry brother to any old BBQ sauce. It’s very easy, and can be made ahead of time (my fave).

I needed a Blueberry BBQ Sauce for these turkey burgers I was drooling about, so set to the kitchen and concocted what I think is a delicious blueberry brother to any old BBQ sauce. Ingredients
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 cup onion, diced
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp mustard (I used Dijon)
- 1 tsp coconut aminos
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- In a small pot, heat coconut oil and sauté onions and garlic until onions are translucent.
- Add the blueberries and cook for about 10 minutes (or longer if your blueberries were frozen).
- Begin mashing the blueberries with your spatula when they start to soften.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer on low for at least 5 minutes. You want all of the ingredients to come together and for the liquid to thicken. Just keep mashing and mixing as the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and use an immersion blender (or pour sauce into a blender), and blend until smooth. Use immediately or let cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
You can sub frozen blueberries instead of fresh. Since they will be cooked, you do not need to thaw them.
